Williams excited to be a Rocket

Neptune Beach (Fla.) Fletcher cornerback Jacquez Williams committed to the Toledo Rockets over other offers from Charlotte, Marshall, UMASS, and Western Kentucky.

He officially visited the weekend before National Signing Day of 2016, and committed a few days later. Then Williams, a two-star recruit, signed with the Rockets as a part of their 2016 class.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder enrolls at Toledo on June 25th.

"I'm so excited, words can't explain it," Williams said. "I'm ready to be apart of the family. It's official but not as official until I get there. I'm ready to experience the college football atmosphere. I've been waiting for this for a while and it's finally [almost] here."

In the meantime, Williams has been working hard to prepare himself physically for college football at the FBS level. He's been working out with a personal trainer as well as with a coach from his high school.

He's been following the workout packet that Toledo sent him and also is working on the field with Mercer tight end signee Chris Ellington.

"I'm just getting ready for the journey at UT," said Williams.

Williams is still keeping in close contact with the Toledo coaching staff as well.

"All the time. Coach Ciccone checks up on me all the time," Williams said. "I was just talking to coach Candle about a couple of guys I know who would be good for the program."

Those recruits are Central Michigan commit Norman Anderson, Anthony Evelyn, and Ronnie Stevens.
