Pearson Shines as Toledo Triumphs in Exhibition

Sophomore guard Rian Pearson earned a double-double, 24 points and 11 rebounds, as the Toledo Rockets defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio 86-62 in an exhibition game at Savage Arena last night.
Two freshmen guards, Julius Brown and Ryan Majerle, added 20 and 19 points respectively. Sophomore forward Matt Smith was the fourth and final Rocket scoring double figures, with 14 points.

Toledo jumped out to a 20-6 lead nearly halfway through the first half, and held a 41-22 halftime lead. Toledo shot 49.3% from the field, and kept UNO to just 37.1% from the field. Toledo won the turnover battle, recording just 10 turnovers and forcing 19 UNO turnovers in the game.
Up next for the Rocket men's basketball program is the official open to the season at the Texas-Pan American Tournament on Friday, November 18th. The participants of the tournament are Toledo, Texas-Pan American, South Carolina-Upstate, Texas State, and Victory (TN) University. Toledo will play Texas State on Friday, USC-Upstate on Saturday, Texas-Pan American on Sunday, and then finish the tournament against Victory (TN) University on Monday. Following the tournament, the Rockets will return to Savage Arena for the home opener against UIC on Saturday, November 26th. Tip-off of that game is scheduled for 7:00pm.
