Local lineman commits to UT

The Toledo Rockets added their seventh commitment of the 2017 class on Monday morning as Toledo (OH) St. John's Jesuit offensive guard Mitchell Berg made his college choice.

Berg was offered by the Rockets' staff back in February, and they made Berg a priority to add to their 2017 recruiting class.

"I committed to UT because it is close to home," Berg told TheRocketNation.com. "My first time I went to a junior day, there was a great connection between the coaches and the recruits. It just felt right every time I came for junior days or to visit with coach Candle.

"I sat down and evaluated every college I had an offer from and chose based on how the campus fit me, how I interacted with the coaches, and to join a winning program. I also live ten minutes away from the campus, and who wouldn't want a home cooked meal from your mom while at college?"

On Sunday night, the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder decided that Toledo was his best fit, so he got in touch with UT head coach Jason Candle and offensive line coach Mike Halley to inform them of his decision.

"I said 'It's time to be a Rocket' and they were full of excitement," said Berg.

Another factor that led to Berg's decision to commit to UT was his relationship with the coaching staff.

"It's pretty good, there is good relationship between all of them. Every time I'm there I talk to everyone and have simple conversations about anything not just football," he said.

Berg is currently unsure of his visit plans this summer.
