Jon Heacock Named Interim Head Coach

University of Toledo vice-president and athletic director Mike O'Brien announced that defensive coordinator Jon Heacock will serve as interim head football coach while the University of Toledo conducts a national search for a permanent head coach.

Early Sunday morning Matt Campbell informed the University that he was accepting the head coach position at Iowa State. Mike O'Brien quickly worked to name Jon Heacock as interim head coach as the Rockets prepare for a bowl game. Toledo, 9-2 overall and 6-2 in the MAC, will not know it's bowl fate for another week.

"We will begin our search for a new head coach immediately. There is no time table for the hiring, but obviously with recruiting coming up, we want to move quickly. In the meantime, we are pleased that Jon Heacock will be leading our team on an interim basis. Jon has done a great job guiding our defense the past two years, and we look forward to his leadership as we prepare for a bowl game."

Heacock has 31 years of collegiate coaching experience, including time served as the head coach at Youngstown State from 2001 through 2009. Heacock began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Toledo in 1983.

Heacock and his wife Trescia have two children, son Jace and daughter Adelyn.
