Georgia Safety Commits to Toledo

The University of Toledo picked up their 15th commitment in the 2012 football recruiting class this evening when Lawrenceville, Georgia (Central Gwinnett) safety Aaron Taylor gave his verbal agreement to attend Toledo on a football scholarship. Taylor, 6-0 and 192 pounds, chose Toledo over offers from Ohio University, Ball State, Gardner & Webb, and Georgia State.

TheRocketNation.com spoke with Aaron Taylor after he committed to Toledo, and he gave some insight on why he chose to commit to the Rockets football program. "I like the school in general," said Taylor. He added, "I wanted to go to a school in a city, and the business program there was a big deal for me. The donations they had to the business program is great."

Aaron also mentioned that he doesn't want to redshirt and he will be given the chance to play early at Toledo. He is being recruited to Toledo by assistant coaches Paul Nichols and Steven Clinkscale to play the star position, a linebacker/safety hybrid position.

Taylor visited Toledo's campus over the summer, as well as Ohio University's campus. After those visits he decided that the decision would come down to Toledo and Ohio. He took an official visit to Ohio University last weekend, and even though he has not watched the Rockets play in person yet he knew that he wanted to become a Rocket. He will take an official visit to Toledo on October 22nd, when the Rockets host Miami University in Toledo's homecoming game.

Toledo head coach Tim Beckman has made a big impression on Taylor. "I like his coaching style," Taylor said. He continued, "He takes risks and puts people in position to make plays. I like that aggressive approach. Toledo is willing to play anyone."

This year Gwinnett Central is 3-4 on the season, and they play their rival this weekend. I asked Taylor what his season statistics were so far, and he knew he had one interception, a couple of forced fumbles, and over 50 tackles; but he was not very sure of his totals. "I don't really worry about my individual stats and just try to be a team player," Taylor explained.

Aaron has good speed for his size, recently clocked at 4.5 in the forty yard dash. That said, he believes that working on his speed and agility are the two most important things he needs to work on while he prepares for college.

He also believes he has the body to bulk up more than what he already is. "I have the frame that I can put a lot of weight on, but I'm not sure what kind of safety I want to be yet."

Aaron Taylor is the 3rd Toledo commitment in the past week, and 15th overall commitment in the Rockets' 2012 recruiting class.
