Findlay Athlete on Toledos Radar

The Niswander last name is becoming popular in the Toledo area. Findlay, Ohio athlete Austin Niswander signed to play football with the Rockets in the Class of 2013. Now, it's his little brother's turn. Grant Niswander, also attending Findlay high school, is becoming a popular name in the Class of 2015, at least for a recruit who doesn't have any offers…yet. Niswander is not the quickest or the biggest recruit in the class, nor is he the five-star recruit that national media will rave about. Instead, he's a hard-working recruit with extreme potential at the wide receiver position.
Grant can line up in a number of places; you want him as a punt returner? He can do that. You want to place him at quarterback for a few snaps? No problem. Mainly, Niswander is a wide receiver target, though he does play both ways at defensive back as well. The 6'0, 177 pound Niswander showed up to Friday night's Toledo camp with something to prove. As one of over 100 seniors in attendance, Niswander knew he needed to show something, especially if he wants to follow in his brother's footsteps and play college football. And he did just that. Niswander performed extraordinarily well and despite having nearly 240 recruits all after the same goal on Friday night, Niswander proved he is deserving of an offer and stood out during several drills. From an impressive 4.60 40-yard dash, to a standout performance in one-on-one drills, he left several scouts circling his name on their camp roster.

"I felt that I performed pretty well," Niswander said about Friday night's camp. "I was tired because of basketball the day before and had four games the next day, but I feel it went well."
Despite having a bright future on the football field, Niswander says he is also looking at basketball interest as well. "I'm getting a lot of looks for both sports, I'd be open to playing either one in college," said the two-sport standout.
Niswander is a weapon on his high school football team, just as his older brother Austin was. However, Austin was in the same boat to begin his senior season in high school. Even though the older Niswander was 6'2, 190 pounds, he found himself offer-less until he ended up receiving an offer from Toledo before signing day and eventually committed to the Rockets. Now, younger brother Grant could be stuck in the same situation, "My brother just keeps telling me to work hard and everything will come," Grant said on the advice from older Austin.
Grant is able to be played at wide receiver, defensive back, punt returner, and even quarterback on occasion. The younger Niswander brother is especially good on screen passes and getting the ball in space to create some excitement. As any other young wide receiver with common sense, he likes to look up to NFL superstar, Calvin Johnson. "I guess I like to model my game around Calvin Johnson, but I know I'm not like Calvin Johnson," Grant stated with a laugh. "I like to work as hard as my brother (Austin), I want to do more than him, but yet I look up him."
Austin is heading into his sophomore season at Toledo this fall. So could we see a fairytale story come about with both brothers ending up at the same school? "A Toledo offer would be extremely hard to turn down," said Grant, "My brother goes there and it'd feel really nice. My brother likes Toledo a lot, he likes the coaches and how young they are but yet how they push him and helped make him stronger."
Aside from camp invites, Niswander hasn't been overwhelmed with mail from colleges begging him to come to their school. "I visited Buffalo, I've gotten several camp invites from D-2 schools, got invited to Nebraska junior day and also got a Miami (OH) camp invite," said Niswander.
Toledo hasn't been in extreme contact with the younger Niswander, aside from sending him the camp invite but Grant is still extremely high on the Rockets. "I really like campus, I like how it's close to my hometown so I wouldn't have to go far to get home." Schools who offer better be ready for Grant's high dreams for a career though, "I want to be a pilot, so I am looking for an aviation program of some sort."
Grant Niswander is an up-and-coming name in the Class of 2015, if he continues to have breakout camp performances like the one he showed on Friday night in Toledo, coaches won't be able to leave this kid alone. The Rocket Nation will keep you posted on the latest in Niswander's recruitment.
